Character of Liaquat Ali Khan: Kal Tak by Javed Chaudhry

Javed Chaudhry – host of Kal Tak program in Pakistan – compares and contrasts the integrity of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaqat Ali Khan, with the current generation of Pak leaders. On a recent state visit to the US, Pakistani ministerial delegation made it a point to indulge in the proverbial good life at the national exchequer’s expense. It is all the more remarkable that it did so despite large-scale and very public suffering of IDPs (internally displaced persons) from army’s operations against Taliban in Swat and Malakand. By contrast, Liaqat Ali Khan – despite being a wealthy Nawab by birth – was always cognizant of Pakistan’s status as a poor country and insisted on leading an austere and simple life.
