Pakistan and England after defeating Sri Lanka and India respectively in the quarter finals have qualified for the Semi Finals of ICC Under-19 world Cup 2014. Today two quarter final matches are played. In first Quarter Final England defeated India by margin of 3 wickets while Pakistan in the 2nd Quarter final of the day defeated Sri Lanka by huge margin of 121 runs.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Quarter Final Review
Pakistan quite dominantly got grip over the match right from the start. Pakistan opening pair provided splendid start to the team via providing a stand of 177 runs. Pakistan Under-19 skipper Sami Aslam leading from the front played a remarkable innings of 95 runs. Sami Aslam was unlucky as he fell 5 runs short of his century mark. Companion on the other side, Imam-Ul-Haq played superb knock of 82 runs. Kamran Ghulam came to bat at one down position and proved to be another 50-maker. Kamran contributed with 52 runs in team’s total. Pakistan playing first put a huge total of 279 runs on the board.
Pakistan top order displayed a class act with the bat and they kept Sri Lankan bowlers dominated throughout the opening innings of the match. After getting a good total to chase Sri Lanka started steadily and they lost their opening wicket on the first ball of the innings. Zia Ul Haq made a strike on the first ball and provided Pakistan with the earliest breakthrough. In the very next over Sri Lankan skipper was removed, and Pakistan tightened their grip over the match. From Sri Lankan batting line up Samarawickrama and Perera were the batsmen resisted against Pakistan bowlers while none of the other batsman could be able to tackle Pakistan bowlers. After superb demonstration of world class batting, Pakistan bowlers proved that they are the best bowling attack in the world. Zia-ul-Haq, Zafar Gohar, Karamat Ali, and Kamran Ghulam took two wickets each and contained Sri Lanka in just 158. Sri Lanka in response of Pakistan’s 279 were all out in 158.
India vs England Quarter Final Review
The defending champion India defeated in ICC Under-19 World Cup 2014 quarter final by England Under-19 side. India who batted first played steady cricket right from the start of their innings. England bowlers quite effectively tackled world’s renowned Under-19 batting lie up. 4 of the top order batsmen of India were removed in just 24 runs that put India under pressure right from the start of the innings. Winslade, Fisher and Sayer bowled with control to keep India at their back foot. After losing 4 wicket some resistance came from skipper Zol and Hooda who brought India’s total to 111. Sarafraz Khan from the lower middle order played a 52 runs knock to bring Indian total to 121 runs. England after containing India in a low total started steadily and they lost their opening wicket in 8th over of the match. Duckett from the top order batting line up played for 61 runs and brought England innings into the shape. The team effort made England win the math in the last over of the innings. England chased down a promising total of 221 runs in 49.1 over at the loss of their 7 wickets.
